pays d'oc (languedoc, france)
this syrah comes from 20-year-old vines, planted on hillsides at an average altitude of 150 metres in the nîmes region (deep rhône river soils), the béziers plain (thick clay and limestone soils) and the aude valley (poor limestone soils).
two vinification methods are used; a long maceration period for 70% and a carbonic maceration (fermentation of whole grapes) for 30%. about 10% of the final blend is aged in quality french oak barriques which adds depth, complexity and structure to the wine.
juicy and soft, with notes of blackberry, black cherry and plum. it’s ripe, yet superbly balanced and there’s a hint of peppery spice and a whiff of well-judged oak on the long, soft finish.
